What is Functional Medicine?
At My Mindful Medicine, we practice functional medicine. Functional medicine is a personalized, science-based approach to healthcare that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of chronic diseases. It is based on systems biology, which entails looking at the human body as a complex system of systems, instead of addressing each organ system in isolation.
The philosophy of functional medicine has three tiers that center around the mental, emotional, and spiritual health of each unique individual:
Genetics and factors influencing one's mental, emotional, and spiritual health.
The interconnected physiologic systems of the body that continuously influence each other. These include hormones, digestion and assimilation, energy production, immune function, structural integrity, detoxification, and cardiovascular function.
The impact of lifestyle factors on health and disease. These include: sleep, food, movement, relationships, and stress.

At My Mindful Medicine, mindfulness isn’t a trend. It’s the foundation.
Mindfulness is the practice of being intentionally present in the moment, free of judgment, open to whatever arises — with compassion, curiosity, and care.
It means showing up fully, whether you’re facing a diagnosis, sitting in discomfort, or rediscovering joy. It means listening deeply to your body, your emotions, and your experience — not to fix them immediately, but to understand them first.
Healing doesn’t start with answers. It starts with awareness.
In a world that encourages pushing through, speeding up, and shutting down, mindfulness invites us to slow down, tune in, and awaken the wisdom already within.
My Journey with Mindfulness
As a former elite gymnast, Olympic alternate, and military veteran, I’ve lived through intensity, performance pressure, and trauma. I’ve also walked the long road of recovery — not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually.
Mindfulness became my lifeline — not just as a coping tool, but as a path to wholeness.
I trained formally as a mindfulness meditation teacher, integrating both secular and trauma-informed practices. My background includes:
Certification with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach through their Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program
Training in Guided Imagery
Advanced somatic and compassion-based meditation practices
Years of leading groups and live meditation sessions on Insight Timer and one-on-one sessions for athletes, veterans, and chronic illness warriors
I don’t just teach mindfulness — I live it.
I bring it into every encounter, every consult, and every plan we co-create together.
